Commission Process

Shannon Plourde has created a process for the engagement of custom work for clients for decades. She has found that the commission process is founded on clear communication and outlined expectations. Shannon has been able to pare this process down to the following three steps to ensure success from every commission.

1. ESTABLISH CONTEXT AND COLOR

Where applicable, Shannon will request references to existing artwork she has created so they can be used to “guide” the direction for the custom work. This affords conversation about what the client loves or desires to see within their custom art piece. Then a conversation about the custom colors and/or color range is discussed and documented. If necessary, a material palette may be provided using fabric swatches along with other relevant material in which to reference the commission.

2. OFFER COMPOSITION AND COLOR REVIEW FOR APPROVAL

A photograph of the drawing for the custom painting on the canvas will be taken and emailed, offering a drawing reference prior to initiating the painting process. This will allow the client to see the scale and composition of the custom painting. Then when the painting process is almost complete, a video is taken showing all areas of the painting and emailed for reference to discuss any color changes or additions. This is the only timeframe where changes may be requested prior to step #3.

3. PROVIDE FINAL DOCUMENTATION

A photograph of the final image will be emailed and used to provide proof of completion prior to collecting final payment and shipping.
